Each has its own special ambiance and all rooms have lovely views of Warwick and the surrounding country side. Murder Mystery themed weekends are another feature of the Abbey of the Roses. Packages include bed and breakfast, a three course meal and Hostess on the night. Wedding receptions are fast becoming Abbey of the Roses speciality. You can choose to have your reception inside or outside. You can also choose to be married in the beautiful rose gardens. Abbey of the Roses also accommodates for morning teas, luncheons, afternoon teas, conferences or any special function you wish to have. Abbey of the Roses (formerly Our Sisters of Mercy Convent – Our Lady of Assumption) was built in 1893 from local Sandstone, costing approximately 12,000 pounds and was funded by the people of Warwick through an Art Union. The Convent catered for the education of young Catholic women for nearly a century. With the advent of school transport systems in the 1960s, the need for boarding accommodation declined. The last of the school’s boarders left in 1972. Sisters in residence also declined and in 1987 the Order of the Sisters of Mercy decided to sell the property. Our Lady of Assumption College was purchased by Sophia College Trust in 1989 and was renamed Sophia College. The Trust provided tertiary education until December 1993, when it was forced to close. The property was then purchased on October 27 1994. Following an extensive repair and restorative effort, the building was brought back to as close to original as possible, and opened in 1995 as a function centre.
