Aventine Wines

THE WINERY Our winemaking style is traditional, using indigenous yeasts, and minimal interference. Apart from traditional styles, we also make non-traditional, non-commercial wine styles. These are enjoyed by many people, especially those who enjoy something special. The 20 acre vineyard is located on the side of a north facing hill, high above the Ballandean Valley, at an altitude of 1000m approximately.The high altitude ensures frost free springs and long cool ripening times. The soil is composed of shallow weathered granite.As many as possible vineyard tasks, such as pruning and picking, are carried out by hand in the time honoured tradition. Enjoy our gardens containing old winemaking equipment and horse drawn wagons and sulkies, from a more graceful bygone era. Picnic facilities available. Wines that are an expression of the place where they are grown.

Bungawarra Wines

Bungawarra is a small winery where our focus is simply in growing our own fruit and making the best possible wine from it. Our wines vary from season to season because of this, but they are always the very best that can be made and truly reflect the natural flavours of our vineyard and the season. Personal attention and the hand of the winemaker on the vines and wines make us different from larger, more mechanized wineries. We have no restaurant or coffee-shop. We grow the vines, pick and crush the grapes, make it into wine and bottle it - all here on site - then present it to you in our tasting-room

Granite Ridge Wines

The cellar door to Granite Ridge Wines (formerly Denlana Ferguson Estate Wines) has been open since late 1996. In this time it has produced Queensland’s best Cabernet two years in succession. Our Goldies Unwooded Chardonnay has been given the distinction of selection as the official Parliamentary Wine of the Parliament of Queensland — the first time in history that a Queensland wine has been awarded this status. Dennis Ferguson founded the winery in 1995 and the first vintage produced one trophy and two medals — an outstanding result for the fledgling vineyard. Success has continued to breed success and now the wines produced continue to grow in stature and flavour. Granite Ridge Wines is a boutique winery that is starting to make an impact on the wider Australian wine-making map. All of the wine produced by Granite Ridge Wines — dry whites, dry reds, sweet and fortified wines — are all available for tasting and purchase at the cellar door of the winery.

Heritage Estate is a family-owned and run vineyard, established in 1992. Heritage Wines produces many award winning wines and is a favourite venue with visitors to the district for wine tasting. Pyramids Road Wines

A passion for fine wines drives all operations at Pyramids Road Wines. Our focus is the production of high quality low volume hand made wines. All wines are hand crafted on the premises. Our 2 hectare vineyard was planted in November 1999 producing our first crop in 2002.Varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Mourvedre, and Verdelho. A 70 year old patch of muscat has been revived and has supplied a fortified to our range. Small scale production means most operations are hands-on -- from pruning, training, picking in the vineyard to basket pressing, bottling and labeling in the winery. Pyramids Road's cellar door has a long history as a local dance hall and a packing shed. It now provides our visitors the opportunity to view the winemaking facilities in the attached shed and taste our wines.

Established at 1000m above sea level in the cool climate of Ballandean in the Granite Belt, Symphony Hill is a family owned and run boutique winery with a passion for creating beautiful wines. They have accumulated 9 gold medals and 4 trophies. The 2003 Reserve Shiraz won the first ever gold medal to go to a QLD winery at the 2005 Sydney Royal Wine Show and was the second highest scoring wine of the show – second only to Tyrrells Vat 1 Semillon. The newly released 2005 Reserve Verdelho has recently been awarded Blue Gold at the 2006 Sydney International Wine Competition. James Halliday has rated the winery 4.5 stars in his latest 2006 Wine Companion – the highest score to go to a Queensland winery.

Whiskey Gully Wines

Whiskey Gully Wines, at Severnlea, is a modern vineyard in Australia's Granite Belt District, producing fine wines from a variety of grapes including Shiraz, for which Australia is famous. Using modern viticultural techniques, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay varieties were established and they immediately took a liking to the well drained granitic soil which imparts that marvellous flinty character to Granite Belt wines. In 1999 we planted more Cabernet Sauvignon and some French Colombard. Whiskey Gully Wines declared its first vintage in 1999. The 2000 vintage was particularly good and wines produced in that year picked up a total of 17 trophies and medals from wine shows including two gold medals. The 2002 vintage was also exceptional, producing two more gold medals and trophies and numerous others medals.

Mountainview Wines

Mountview Wines is a 'pretty as a picture' red cedar barn winery with sheltered picnic tables and barbecue. Tasting room visitors are cosseted amid barrels and winemaking equipment while sampling some of the district's finest wines. This winery won the Best Queensland Red for three consecutive years and Cabernet Merlot, Bubbles and Cerise are specialities. Some awards to date include 'most successful Queensland exhibitor' and best Queensland Shiraz at the 1994 Australian Small Winemakers Show and Gold Medal Shiraz and Bronze Medal Cabernet Merlot and Sparkling at the 1998 Cairns Show Wine Awards. Set among pine trees, the red cedar barn winery enjoys spectacular views and stands on the site of the original Mountview vineyards established in 1921.
