Established in 1989 and located 15 kilometres west of Stanthorpe, on the boundary of the granite and traprock, this winery overlooks three large dams and is set amongst picturesque gardens. The modern tasting room also serves as an exhibition site for local artists. All wines are produced on the premises by Winemaker Chris Whitfort. Products/Varieties: Table and fortified wines. ld Caves Winery has a simple philosophy about wine - "A good wine is one that you can drink and enjoy". Situated on the New England Highway, just north of Stanthorpe, Old Caves specialise in producing "everyday" wines, non-vintage styles that are inexpensive enough for people to enjoy on a regular basis. A Small range of vintage wines are also produced at the winery. We are one of the smaller, commercial wineries in the Granite Belt area. Old Caves has grape planting covering 12 acres, including varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, White Muscat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. We also have contract growers to fulfil all our grape variety needs. With the high altitude, cool nights and sandy soil, the wines being produced in this district should develop a clean fruit character and a good depth of body. Old Caves wines range from sweet to dry white and red table wines and fortified wines. The winery has something for the whole family; warm hospitality all year round, wine tastings and sales, childrens area, picnic areas, barbecues and a log fire for our cold winter days.

THE WINERY Our winemaking style is traditional, using indigenous yeasts, and minimal interference. Apart from traditional styles, we also make non-traditional, non-commercial wine styles. These are enjoyed by many people, especially those who enjoy something special. The 20 acre vineyard is located on the side of a north facing hill, high above the Ballandean Valley, at an altitude of 1000m approximately.The high altitude ensures frost free springs and long cool ripening times. The soil is composed of shallow weathered granite.As many as possible vineyard tasks, such as pruning and picking, are carried out by hand in the time honoured tradition. Enjoy our gardens containing old winemaking equipment and horse drawn wagons and sulkies, from a more graceful bygone era. Picnic facilities available. Wines that are an expression of the place where they are grown.

Back Creek Wines is a small wine producer and satellite Cellar Door of Severn Brae Estate offering wines made from local grapes by awarded local wine maker Bruce Humphery-Smith and featuring delectable food created using some local seasonal produce. Back Creek wines now offer, Semillon (2 vintages), Cabernet Merlot (2 vintages), Shiraz Durif, Bella Vista Sweet White, Bella Vista Sweet Red and Liqueur Muscat.
